Buyers Guides - Sectional Garage Doors
Sectional garage doors are constructed from a number of hinged horizontal sections. They use tracks either at the side as guides or fitted behind the garage opening. Each section moves vertically as it opens and then follows a curved section of track into the garage and along an overhead track. The whole door can be retracted fully into the garage space and 'parked', but it does not roll up.
Sectional garage doors allow you to retain the full width of your garage entrance. Cars can be parked right up to the door, inside or outside the garage. You can open and close them without moving cars and they fit both curved and arched garage openings. Most are constructed of galvanised steel, but you can also select aluminium with foam for increased thermal and noise insulation. Sectional garage doors are well-suited for automatic operation and can also be operated manually.
It is important to check that you have clear space in your garage for the overhead tracks as well as the fully opened garage door. Bear in mind that these may compromise existing overhead or wall mounted storage spaces.
Sectional garage doors usually have horizontal ribbed or panelled designs. Some manufacturers offer additional window options and there is usually a choice between standard white, or a range of low maintenance colours and finishes.
