Buyers Guides - Roller Garage Doors

Roller garage doors

Roller garage doors are constructed of a number of interlinked horizontal slats. They move vertically up and down in tracks. There is no need for a door frame as the tracks and roller door can be mounted behind the garage opening. When opened they roll up and above the door opening. The diameter of the roll will depend on the height of the door and the thickness of the material used in its construction.

Roller garage doors have several potential advantages. You retain the original width of your garage entrance, which is likely to make driving in and out that little bit easier. It is possible to park cars right up to the roller - inside the garage or out. This type is a good choice if you need to squeeze parked cars onto the drive. They can also be very useful if there is only one entrance to your garage and you require frequent access without the chore of moving cars.

Roller doors make it easier to keep overhead or wall mounted storage areas inside the garage. They can also accommodate curved or arched lintels above the door opening. Rollers are ideal for electric operation, but can just as easily be used manually.

The majority of roller garage doors are constructed of galvanised steel. Most feature a horizontal ribbed design. A wide variety of low maintenance colours and finishes are on offer at Don's Doors. Some manufacturers offer improved thermal and sound insulation by combining aluminium with foam.

Please note that roller doors will not suit all types of house and individual preferences.
