Sectional doors are made from a number of hinged horizontal sections. These form the door curtain. Movement is provided by rollers running in continuous tracks. Sprung mechanisms and cables provide lift for the sections.
As the door is opened each section moves vertically. It then follows a curved section of track back into the garage and is suspended beneath the garage ceiling on two horizontal tracks. The complete mechanism and door curtain is mounted behind the garage opening. Sectional doors tend to be fitted for electric operation, but can be operated manually.
There are a number of built-in safety features. Door curtains and mechanisms are designed to protect fingers and feet. The curtain has devices to prevent it from dropping suddenly or accidentally. Electric operators will automatically reverse the door curtain if it touches someone as it closes.
Built-in security features protect the door curtain and operating mechanism from unauthorised access. The door curtain has multiple latching points and concealed emergency unlocking. Automatic locking systems secure the door mechanism when the curtain is closed. Electric operators support a number of different remote access devices and security coding functions.
