A Retractable mechanism can be used with both single and double door sizes. Door rollers run along two horizontal tracks fixed to the top of the door frame. These tracks project back into the ceiling space of the garage. Lift is provided by vertical springs operating lifting arms fixed to the bottom corners of the door. This enables the door to open and then slide away (retract) almost completely into the garage space.
The door is secured by two or four latching points on the frame. Separate handles and cylinder locks are fitted for increased security. A number of safety devices are incorporated, protecting fingers and feet, and preventing the door derailing. Multiple springs are fitted to stop the door falling in the unlikely event that a spring fails.
Most manufacturers offer electric operators to automate retractable up and over doors.
