Double Doors

A garage door required to fit a wider or higher opening is called a double door. Manufacturers offer double door sizes for Up and Over, Roller and Sectional doors.

The broader width and/or greater height of the door may require a stronger mechanism to cope with the extra size and weight of the door itself. Generally, this is achieved by building mechanisms with stronger parts. For example, multiple lifting springs are fitted as standard in mechanisms for double door sizes.

Electric Operator Kits

Double sizes of Up and Over garage doors are supplied with a Retractable operating mechanism (lifting gear). Its design, specification and performance make it more suitable for a larger and heavier door. It is also ideal for use with electric operator kits that are becoming increasingly popular. Electric motors are usually recommended for double sizes of door.

Roller types of door use an operating mechanism that is designed and specified to cope with a range of single, double or bespoke sizes of door curtain.

Some manufacturers only supply a heavier or larger Sectional door with a particular variant of their operating mechanism. These may use a different type of spring technology – e.g. horizontal torsion springs rather than vertical tension springs.
