Timber from natural wood has become a more selective material for garage doors in recent years. It is most commonly used in up & over and side hinged doors.
Today's timber garage doors are made from solid wood or a panel construction braced by a steel chassis. Cedar and oak are the main woods used. Marine plywood may be used as a sub-frame for a cedar facing.
Manufacturers use a range of factory treatments to protect and preserve wooden garage doors. These are usually available in a number of finishes and colours. Doors can be supplied with a base coat for final finishing by the buyer in a colour of their choice.
Finished timber produces stylish garage doors of a very high quality. As with any natural material, periodic treatment is required to retain the beauty and longevity of your doors. One characteristic of wood is that it 'breathes' - so some movement of joints may occur over time. The grain in wood produces different patterns and shades - one of the factors that make properly maintained wooden garage doors so attractive.
Manufacturers recognise the environmental issues associated with wood and source their timber from authenticated suppliers and managed forests.
