Steel is the most commonly used material in garage doors and is often the least expensive. It is factory galvanised, pre-treated, primed and finished in a variety of top and surface coatings. This produces a corrosion resistant door in a range of low maintenance textures and colours. The coatings are engineered to provide UV protection and ensure that the door retains its finish for much longer.
Steel produces doors that are tough, durable and secure. They are relatively lightweight for their size and available in a variety of styles, finishes and colours. Some manufacturers supply primed doors that can be painted by the buyer in their own choice of colour.
Galvanised steel frames are used in combination with other materials to increase rigidity and strength. One manufacturer supplies a chassis that can be filled with timber boards to produce personalised DIY garage doors.
