Electric operators allow you to open and close the garage door from the comfort, convenience and security of your car. All up & over (retractable gear), roller and sectional garage doors can be automated using remote control electric operation. Most up & over (canopy gear) and all side hinged garage doors cannot be automated.

Powerful Mechanisms

An Electric Operator is a kit with all the essential components for automated operation - motor, control unit, drive mechanism and remote control unit. Electric operators are available for single and double size garage doors. More powerful motors are required for larger and heavier doors. The mounting and operation of motor and drive mechanisms varies between door types. The differences are summarised in our sections covering automated operation of the three types of door.

Retro Fitting

A number of accessories are available to configure electric operation to your specific requirements and preferences.

You may be able to convert a manually operated up & over (retractable gear), roller, or sectional garage door into an electrically operated one. This is often possible by 'retro-fitting' a manufacturer's electric operator kit to their doors. It is sometimes necessary to replace parts of the operating mechanism to do this.
